The Pan-Arcadian Federation of Victoria comprises of twelve associations. They are : Kynourian Philanthropic Society. "Kolokotronis" Association. Pan-Gortynian Association of Melbourne, Victoria. Vourvoura Association. Kandila Association. " Agios Konstantinos". Loukas Association."Agios Georgios". Prasino Association. Panagitsa Association."Analipsis". Hotousa Association." Agios Haralambos". Nestani Association. Blaherna Association. "Agia Blaherna". Pan-Arcadian Youth Federation of Victoria and Australia. The Victorian Federation was formed in 1988 after the visit of the Prefect of Arcadia, at that time, Mr. Grigoris Niotis. The Federation held a number of dances and cultural events. The Committee also organised a trip to Canberra where over 200 Arcadians participated for the 150 years Anniversary of the passing of one of the greatest generals in Greece's history, Theodoris Kolokotronis. The Victorian Federation sent to Libovisi, Arcadia, a large amount of money for the restoration of Kolokotronis's house. Delegates from Victoria and New South Wales representing Australia participated in the First World Pan-Arcadian Congress in the summer of 1988 in Tripolis Arcadia. A significant event of that summer in 1988, was the laying of the foundations for the Arcadian Village which was formed for the Arcadians living Abroad. Later all Arcadians living abroad had the right to purchase a house and land in Repontina, Kynouria. The Victorian Federation played an integral part in raising a large amount of money from fundraising activities to purchase an ambulance. It cost a large amount of money and was sent to the Pan-Arcadian Hospital in Tripolis, Arcadia. In later years the Federation sent money and various hospital utensils to the hospital. The Federation together with the New South Wales Federation formed the South Australian Federation to cater for the needs of the Arcadian community living in South Australia. All three Federations formed the Australian Federation in January of 1991. They also held the First Australian Pan-Arcadian Convention. The Federation was part of the organisation of the Cultural Arcadian Months both in 1991 and 1994. Both times a large number of visitors from the Society of Arcadic Letters and Arts came to Australia and held talks, displayed exhibitions of books, pictures and handmade articles, screened short documentaries and films, and they displayed traditional dances. The Federation is a founding member for the Committee for the Commemoration of Greek National Day. It has organised and participated in all the celebrations for the 25th of March. It is also a member of SEKA which is an organisation supporting the liberation of Cyprus. The Victorian Federation celebrated its 10 years Anniversary at Moonlight Receptions. Over four hundred Arcadians and many guests, like the former Presidents Mr. Lambros Lagadinos and Mr. Stefan Kourkoulis, also the World Record holder, Mr Yiannis Kouros and various Ministers were present too. On January 1998 in Canberra, the Fourth Australian Pan-Arcadian Convention took place. Where for the first time a young Executive Committee from Victoria were handed the Presidency of the Pan-Arcadian Federation of Australia. Quite recently the Federation held many cultural activities, many talks from many renown lecturers. Laid wreaths for the Liberation of Tripolis and Arcadia. Held a radio program for close to 10 months where the young committee talked about historical Arcadia, famous Arcadians and played traditional Arcadian Music. Another important contribution made by the Federation was the donation of many Arcadian Books to all the Universities of Melbourne where Greek Departments are present. The Victorian Federation helped the Greek Community of New Zealand by sending many Greek books and teaching aids to them. Finally, it also formed the Youth Federation of Victoria. The Youth Federation held some successful activities where many young Arcadians participated. The 6th National Conference of the Pan-Arcadian Federation of Australia was held on the 21st and 22nd of April in Melbourne. There were many Arcadian and Hellenic issues discussed over the two days. The Dinner Dance held on Saturday evening was very successful, as the majority who attended were youth. |
